Erik Karlsson trade: Why your team should NOT trade for Erik Karlsson
And so the Summer of Karlsson drags on,
Teams vying for the services of mister "Not a dollar more, not a dollar less" would do well to take note of where this aging and injured player seems to be most focused on these days.
Because it is not hockey that seems to be his primary concern, nor does he seem to in any way grateful for the good fortune he has found in this life, he seems to think by the addition or subtraction of dollars will his life be made worthwhile......and just a single one plus or minus could tip the scales, he also seems to think that he is the team he plays for and that other players on that team are but accessories to be added or subtracted based on what is best for him.
Tampa fans...Dallas...good god VEGAS! You guys went the final in large part because your team allowed no such egos in its locker room. You already screwed up the salary structure of your team by overpaying one of the laziest "clock watchers" in the NHL: Paul "wake me up when it's my year prior to being a UFA" Stastny.....now you want this guy? Your team is doomed...they don't even know what they did right, Mc Phee tripped over buried treasure and now he's a financial genius? Apparently, he doesn't even know what did right
Whoever pays the price for Karlson, will deeply regret it, it's the same old story, a great talent gets to the age where he's an FA and insists he be paid for what he was. The problem is he will never be what he was again, he will NEVER earn a top dollar NHL contract going forward, even if none of the other stuff had happened.
when Karlsson, in the middle of a team free fall, threw a mid-season tantrum about salary, that was 100% scripted by his agent (as was his lying denial of it a week later, thus telling fans he thinks they are so stupid they wouldn't notice) Then in another comment said these words "I think The Senators have done a good job of getting me what I need to win" he showed his true colors:
Karlsson is totally self-obsessed, greed driven individual who was willing to flush his team's fortunes and the money fans have ALREADY paid to see what they thought would be a team motivated to win (not individuals trying to use them through the media to pressure his employers for more money he'll never ever spend)
Karrlson showed himself to be 100% about Karlsson and it was ugly, had not an even greater ugliness with him at the center hit the media, more people would be asking these questions. He signed a contract in good faith to do a job, and instead of doing his job and dealing with money at the appropriate time, he further distracts the team he captains with selfish demands.
God help whoever pay this guy what he thinks "he' worth" because what he thinks he worth and what he IS worth will never be close again. if I were running the team I would have offered him minimum wage, with an option to work extra shifts selling concessions.
And I would certainly ask him: "Hey Erik! did we surround you with the right candy and popcorn that YOU need to sell? Cause if not, go clean the bathrooms"
